Midnight Shore

One hour past the leaving
Two years and more have gone
Another wistful evening
One more restless dawn

And now the ache receding
Once more is here alone
In cadence with the beating
Of a heart never truly known

To linger near the water
In a forgotten summer place
Trying to recapture
A friendship now erased

And find the days gone missing
Fitting the pieces back in place
But the puzzle won’t be finished
Till the memory has a face

A time of mild naivete
Still haunts this lonely hour
And ghosts still wander aimlessly
Upon this midnight shore

  1. Absolutely adore the second last stanza. A very emotive and provocative piece.
